Weight Watching - The Series?

So I've been thinking, maybe it's time to 'publicise' my weighty issues.

By that, I mean I probably should start sharing my bid to lose weight on the blog. The reason is simeple --- I'm so bloody unmotivated that maybe knowing people out there are keeping track will in fact motivate me to exercise!

Unforutnately I cannot afford the gym (which I used to absolutely love!) So I'm going to have to settle for a regime of walking after work and riding a bike once I buy one and swimming for a change in the regime. Plus I want to buy some weights to tone the muscles on the arms etc (FYI, I love doing weights...when I went to the gym I preferred weights to cardio)

I'm probably below average in terms of my size for Australian standards. I'm a size 8 - 10 and the average Aussie woman is a size 14. By Indian standards, I'm a large (yes...I had issues buying clothes when I went to India this year....not happy!!!)

Either way though, the point is, for my height I'm probably not the proper weight and while I don't want to be stick thin (I never can, to be honest!) but I want to be a little thinner and toned.

My height: 5 feet
My weight: 57 kgs
BMI: 24.7 (Just in the normal weight range)

So I'm going to start this journey and share it with you folks out there.

If that doesn't motivate me, I'm just going to have to pray to win the Lotto so that I can get gym membership!

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

  1. All the best!

I am also on the same track. My Physical therapist just certified me fit for exercise so I need to build up my stamina and leg strength so that I can go back to my Karate!! Hopefully your blog will help me too!!!

But why do you want to shed weight when your BMI is in the normal range?

  5. PB, same pinch !! You really really won't believe that I was thinking about writing on my weight to keep a track and check on my motivation level ! Gosh, we think in one direction and at the same time, can you beat this ? Anyways, I'm with you to motivate..Let's do it :)

  6. Swimming is my second love (after cricket - my son comes in third) and I can thoroughly recommend it for weight loss, but if your local swimming pool is anything like mine "lane rage" is a frequent visitor.

My pool has a slow lane, a medium lane and a fast lane. Why do women doing 1 length at a time, at a leisurely rate while chatting with their mate, think it is ok to swim in the fast lane? Why don't the life guards do something about it?

    Just sharing my frustrations.

    Now I'm getting blog rage.

  7. @ Richa: Thanks! Hope things work out well for you!

@ Archana: Funnily enough, I don't do the late night munchies (I'm in bed by 10) but I do binge once a week/fortnight. Will definitely be looking at the diet too. But I can't starve myself...so healthy meals it's going to have to be!

@ Titaxy: It's going to be a test for me...to see if this can be motivating! Maybe you should get on it too...having said that, I've seen your pic and don't see why you need to lose weight! Gym membership here...well, I've only checked out a couple of franchises and they can rip you off...but then again, last I checked was about 8 months ago. Maybe I should check if they have some special deals on...esp given that I live 5 mins away from one!

@ G: Thanks! And my BMI is just in a the normal range...24.9 is the max for normal...so I think I need to do something about it!!

@ Nu: Lol that's a funny coincidence! Maybe now, we can do it together!! They do say, it's better to work out with someone!

@ Sid: Well, I actually haven't ever been to the local pools here (embarrassed!!) so need to figure that out. So how does your son feel about being third? ;)

  10. @ Titaxy: Yeah it was the one on the blogger profile. And your point is noted. I don't put on much in the mid-section...mines lower than that. That's where all the weight goes!

@ Smita: Thanks! Going to need it! :P

  11. I have the same issues as you Psych. I'm not large (same as you 8-10) but I have a tendency to put on weight in the midsection & my hips. I have a really great and affordable gym close to my place but I don't end up going half the time coz I'm not motivated enough :( Maybe we should do this together?

  12. @ Legal Alien: Oh we so should do it together! Isn't it supposed to be more effective when you are trying to lose weight with a mate? I'm contemplating going and finding out gym costs and then seeing whether I should just give myself a kick up the arse and exercise on my own instead...
