But what about when an Indian man allegedly murders his own Indian wife in a domestic dispute by slitting her throat? How come there is no news about that? And the Australian police have already hunted down the guy this morning. So it's not completely breaking news given that the woman was murdered yesterday.
And then people wonder why I question the integrity of the media.
It's all about sensationalising things. Period. The news doesn't really matter. Only what sells. I guess saying that an Indian killed his wife in Australia only puts Indians in a bad light at the moment. So why not just ignore the news?
Oh well,
That's my last rant for this year! :)
Until next time,
Cheers!!!
I am completely with you on this.
ReplyDeleteCrappy News!
Haha! Last rant of the year, I like that. You know reading news has lost its purpose I feel. Rahter than increasing my knowledge base or getting more aware, I find myself agitated, ranting and frustrated. I think I should stop subscription to the newspaper starting new years!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I refuse to watch the news on TV at all, instead getting the bits from various websites. Means digging a little deeper, but is a way to be far better informed.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to getting to 'know' you better in 2010
totally agree - it's all about what sells, not what matters...sucks.
ReplyDeleteAgree...news is one of the most commercialized media activities these days.Show what sells is the mantra for most of them.
ReplyDeleteWish you too a very happy new year. BTW i just dropped in to your book blog...nice work there :). Will visit more now.
Yes I've always felt disillusioned with the fact that the media sensationalizes news.
ReplyDeleteBut I feel there is more to this. One Indian maniac just killing his wife seems like a one-off incident. It happened in a family. Doesn't affect out lives much. But the racist attacks in Australia were pretty widespread. At one particular time, Indian kids were getting beaten up almost daily! That's something that matters to a lot of us. Maybe we've got family there. Maybe somebody we know is studying there. Maybe we were planning to go there. Now you see why the Australian racist attacks make better news?
Horrible news..and trust me it all happens every few days in India too..so yes,it's not about murders taking place in any country it's about humanity getting marred every now and then !
ReplyDelete@G: Un-subsrcibing to the newspaper would not help stop what's happening in the world...right ? Just a question :)
Babes!! You are talking about Indian Media!!! How can you even expect anything from them?? :D
ReplyDeleteI agree that some Aussie's show racist attitude towards Indians. But everywhere the same things happen.Indian media say the Aussie government failed to stop these attacks .How can they point fingers at the Aussies when Foreigners get beaten up in pubs and bars by the local goons in India.
ReplyDeleteSeveral foreigners were killed during Mumbai attacks recently.Have justice been delivered to the victims by Indian govt.? Also for instance in Goa,many cases of rape and assault were registered - still no justice to the victims!
So in my opinion, any media,Aussie or Indian cannot just point fingers at each other. And in this particular matter I feel the Indian media is blowing things out of proportion.
Sorry I could not frame the sentences in a proper manner.I'm soo sleepy :P
