Bad Bad Bad

Everyone knows by now how much I love books. And in order to stop myself from buying books, I have reduced the time I spend in book stores. I have literally only been visiting them once every couple of months. Unfortunately, I discovered something a few months ago which is not helping.

Borders Online.

I am not big on internet shopping because I think it's a rort with the shipping charges. Hence I rarely get sucked into spending big online.

But Borders Online is different. They have free delivery! And in the past week I have bought 3 books online. 2 for the book club (because they weren't available at my local library...checked out) and 1 because I found it interesting. And I find myself browsing through the website and looking at the books on discount and almost clicking "add to cart"

This is bad, bad, bad. And now that I know my credit card details off the top of my head, I don't even have to go all the way into my bedroom to dig out my wallet for it. So even laziness doesn't work.

I need a firewall to block the page for a while I reckon.

Sigh.

Until next time,

Cheers!!!

  2. Sigh. This has been happening to me for a long time now. :( And the only way that made me stop is I have no more money to spend on it now :P At least for a few months. So I'm keeping myself away. Anyway, hope you find a way out of spending online...but come on, it's for books, it's so tempting :D

  3. heheh...you have just given me some lethal information. Being a book lover myself, whenever I buy books I just convince myself that spending money on books is not bad, after all I am acquiring knowledge :P

The things we do to fool ourselves...
Maybe you should just freeze your credit card in the refrigerator...by the time it thaws your urge to buy books would have evaporated.

  5. books do that to you !! I can so relate to it PB..I had promised myself that I won't buy any book until I'm done reading the 'unread' lot that I've with me..but no..as a custom every month I go to the book store and buy 2-3 books.. :( Can't resist...just can't seem to resist!

  6. oh yes and I too don't like shopping online for books or any other stuff...somehow I just can't buy something without taking it in my hands and feeling it...so be it books...so at least that saves me from buying more books :P

  9. I guess they are only free within Aus, huh? They do have great discounts. But guess what I found out after this post...there is a website bookdepository in the UK which delivers books worldwide for free and has even better discounts!!! Damn.

  10. Lol...I think that will eventually make me stop! Not having money! But see that's what made me stop visiting the stores. Problem with the credit card is you don't see the money go out at the time unlike in stores....so not helpful. Maybe I should just cancel the credit card which was initially supposed to be for "in case of emergency" and other online payments like my registration and stuff....

  11. Want some more lethal info?? Check out 'BookDepository', a UK based site which has even better discounts than borders and delivers free world over. I think I should just cancel my credit card...except it would possibly affect other important payments that are work related... =P
