Is anyone else as frustrated with the hype surrounding the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton?
I cannot believe the crazed levels the media has gone to. Here in Australia, they have shipped the morning TV show hosts and some evening TV show hosts to London. Because obviously, reporting it from Australia would not do any good. No. One needs to have London in the background and be able to look at everything from where they couple met to where they do their business. [Yes, I do mean going to the toilet]. The other thing they are doing here is that all the free to air channels are ‘celebrating’ royal wedding week. Why I ask. Why?????
And if all that isn’t bad enough they are all going to be airing the wedding ‘live’. Really? The one program on the wedding I was looking forward to was The Chaser’s wedding spoof. But guess what? The royals apparently got BBC to tell ABC to can the show! Honestly! Killjoys are what they are. That was one decent thing about this whole wedding show and now even that’s gone. Who made the royals kings and queens of the whole world?
I am sick and tired of being told when psychics think they couple will have their first child; that unlike Charles and Diana, this marriage is here to stay; that they complete each others’ sentences; that Kate has gone from ‘commoner’ to chic; that the wedding costs so much, yada, yada, yada. What next? Peeking at their poo and telling us what they ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner??? [I have to give credit for this to R who is as frustrated as I am and thinks that's where the media will go next] I think it's even more irksome because it feels like a slap in the face to all those Brits that are doing it tough. As well as the people around the world doing it tough. It's one thing to have an expensive wedding but it's a whole other thing when it's telecast world wide. And when you think that the UK still hasn't recovered from the global financial crisis and people are still struggling to get work, this just seems highly insensitive. I'm not saying Will and Kate should not get married but still...it does seem a bit too much.
I am not one interested in the royals one bit. I do think we as a nation should become a republic and get rid of the monarch altogether. Why does any country need a king or queen in the day of prime ministers and presidents is beyond me!
Sigh...I'll be glad when all this pain is over. Royal pains, that is.
Until next time,
Cheers!!!

I have failed to understand why there is such a hype, instead journalists must realize how bad has the prince done to them by "not inviting" them to the royal wedding.
ReplyDeleteMe, me! We don't have a TV, and subscribe to a 'sensible' paper, so have had to hear very little of it, and am appalled to hear that a good number of people will be glued to their TVs today to watch....what?
ReplyDeleteMe, I'm taking my kids out somewhere to enjoy real life, royally!
Weddings are more than just weddings...WillKat does seem like a big affair and the similar or more importance was paid to Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar wedding or Abhi Ash wedding and the exercise continues for weeks. Who gets invited, who does not, what was there for dinner and what not..it is just the by product of 24x7 news channels..
ReplyDeleteAaah, Psych - try being here in the UK! Actually, I find myself strangely interested in the day (seriously - people slept overnight on the street!) and in the dress but beyond that, I don't care. I hear in the US they are even more into it than the Brits are.
ReplyDeleteI am not frustrated , I ma happy I got a HOLIDAY :) thats the only good thing .. os much money spent well its our money we pay the taxes and these leeches enjoy and have fun on it ...
ReplyDeleteBikram's
Oh no, PB. I am very excited about the wedding too, simply because it is a fairy tale of sorts. Its about a prince meeting a commoner and they falling in love and hopefully living happily ever after :-) That's why everybody is so excited about it. It isn't much about royalty, as it is about a modern-day-fairy-tale :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I did watch the coverage but still share your peeve. I do understand that the whole live telecast by almost all TV channels was a bit annoying. Every time America does it and now Britain is doing it. These two colonial powers have wrecked havoc.
ReplyDeleteBut it was indeed good to see the couple's love blossoming into a wedding.
Joy always,
Susan
you stole words from my mouth. i've been so frustrated the past week hearing about the same thing over and over. and last night i couldn't see any news channel without them discussing what the dress is, who the designer is and all that fun stuff (NOT). i was whining to my mother last night as to why there is so much fuss created around this one wedding. oh well.
ReplyDeleteI admit I was a teensy weensy bit curious about her dress but that's all. I didn't bother watching. The Frenzy is mad, probably much worse in Australia & NZ & a few other countries that are still under the monarchy. I agree that these countries should become republics, the royals just look good on commemorative plates & postage stamps!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a extravagance and makes no sense, I wonder when do we start living more practically? I am not following, may be because I don’t have time..
ReplyDeleteYeah well just be glad you are not actually in the UK ... there are nut cases all over the street shouting and howling, celebrating like its the second coming of Christ.
ReplyDeleteI have shed hopes that people are gonna wake up and invest the millions of dollars they waste on the monarchs on their health service or to create jobs for the millions un-employed ....some plan they have to recover from the financial crisis.
:) ... I know just what you mean! can't agree more...
ReplyDeletegood blog!
Lol...I think though for them, even being present outside seems to do it. And they are getting paid for the same...
ReplyDeleteYesterday for once I wished I didn't have a TV. However, we spent the night watching a DVD so I thought we escaped that way. But nooo...this morning, the news is filled with what transpired yesterday. It's like you can't escape!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I wasn't in India for the Abhi-Ash one (thank God!!!!) but I can imagine the craziness that would have been surrounding it. News is now nothing short of the gossip/entertainment section world over I think...
ReplyDeleteHmm...okay...you got me there. I guess I should thank my stars I'm not physically there! :P People go to extreme lengths for goodness knows what!
ReplyDeleteHaha...I guess they better give you a holiday with all the money they take! I heard about the bit where it's the taxes that go to pay for the royals and I remember thinking I wouldn't be happy if that's where my taxes went! To apparently support people living in a palace!
ReplyDeleteSee Pal, even that doesn't interest me. I fail to understand why someone would want to be a princess. And the news channels have driven me livid by talking about Kate living "every little girl's dream". It never was my dream and never will be...
ReplyDeleteSusan, if I had to watch TV last night, I probably would have been forced to watch it too given that all channels were broadcasting the wedding. However, we had a DVD and ended up watching that! :D
ReplyDeleteOh tell me about it T!! I've been whinging all week to R and we both feel like we are aliens on a strange planet wondering why everyone is so fascinated with this! :P And last night, given that we have 5 free to air channels here and 4 of the 5 channels were broadcasting the wedding 'live'...well, we ended up watching a DVD as there was no other option! :P
ReplyDeleteI think the craziness put me off being interested in the dress :P
ReplyDeleteAnd we don't really need royals in this day and age...especially when hardworking Brits' taxes are going to support them and their palace!
Extravagance is the right word. And especially in the time when Britain is still reeling from the after effects of the GFC just seems cruel.
ReplyDeleteYeah...someone commented that earlier and I thought they definitely had a point --- would have been a zillion times worse if I was physically there! I reckon if I was a British citizen, I'd be livid that my taxes were going to the royals rather than the health service or the umemployed. I'm not saying Aus is perfect by any means (we still have a long way to go in terms of our roads and health and public transport) but at least the money is not going to people living in palaces!
ReplyDeleteWelcome here Matangi! Thanks for the comment... :)
ReplyDeleteI guess a regular student in India is happily away from the hype. We just satisfied ourself with a 6 min video footage on you tube :P
ReplyDeleteexactly ... it would have been fine if the money was going into something useful. Reminds me of all the bad movies I ever saw, your money has gone down the drain but you have to watch it anyway..
ReplyDeleteWow...that would have been great! No escape here with 4 out of the 5 free to
ReplyDeleteair tv channels broadcasting the wedding 'live'!
Great analogy there! :D
ReplyDeleteI am sure the couple themselves wound't be this psyched about the wedding...
ReplyDeleteI guess not Rambler...after all, it's like inviting the whole bloody world!
ReplyDelete:S Welcome to this space...
Its that thing which made twilight a super duper hit. some deep secret (twisted in case of the movie) sense of fantasy coming true for many people and hence the hype.
ReplyDeleteHmm I guess so...but it still makes me think --- people are strange! I don't
ReplyDeleteunderstand some of these fantasies... :P
