@ Amanda: Yeah, you would think that the media would have better things to do...but then again, media world over has always been hypocritical and will jump on something.

@ Archana: Haven't seen SNL but thought that was witty and sarcastic too...this isn't very witty at least in my opinion.

@ MPH: Well, from what I heard here, they are basically talking about Aussies as being racist. I am not of a white background by the way...I'm of Indian origin. But I haven't faced any discrimination here in Aus and in fact felt India was more discriminatory based on skin colour (dark skinned Indians v lighter skinned Indians) I totally understand that racism exists but I think it exists everywhere in the world...and I think it's a bit hypocritical for the media to jump at one thing which wasn't even intended to offend anyone.

@ Sid: They were crying racism because of the black face paint...but I wonder why they didn't cry foul about the white face paint. We are all 'racist' in some way or the other...but this wasn't intended to offend anyone so I think it's just another case of the media jumping on the bandwagon of a celeb and making a big deal out of it...

I never really got on with Hey Hey it's Saturday, and couldn't believe it when someone told me they were rehashing it!

Anyway, I had heard about the racism accuations but hadn't heard exactly what happened. Now I have heard, I am in total agreement with you. The skit was not racist. It may have been insulting to Michael Jackson (a publlic figure is open to this type of thing); some may have found it distasteful and "too soon" (not me - I am sick of everybody crying about Jackson's death), but it was not racist.

I only watched it only once and I don't remember hearing the word "racIST". What I saw was Harry saying something against "racISM". Just my take. Personally I am glad it got attention. As you may know the love of my life is black and I'm white. Just because of that I have seen more prejudice and outright racism than you could guess unless you have experienced it yourself.

Never been a fan of Hey Hey, but I would have to agree I don't see what the big deal is. Not too mention, I can't believe how much air time it been given by the media here and overseas.
