@ Archana: I'm all for technology but phasing out books is a bit too much. Like you, I'm old school. I would look at journal articles online but had to print them out to read!

@ Ersa: Oh yeah, how could I forget that! They will no longer read the entire book but just look for summaries or someone's opinion on it online. Sigh. I feel old!

@ Ms R: Yeah...the problem with the net is where is the actual proper info. I mean, in uni you learn to access journals and stuff but what about schools? They don't have access to journals and they are just going to google stuff!

Geeee!! The kinda questions my 5 year old bro asks! He's already so confused with so much going around - imagine if he has to study everyhting by the internet... Horrors! There's a whole lota info over the net n kids can't take so much - can they? I dunnu. I still prefer less books and human teachers

it is soooooooo not good the way kids are using the computer for everything....i was baby sitting my uncle's kid a year or ago...his parents had asked me to make sure he read a book and knew the story (i don't remember what exactly) for summer school or something next day...and after they left, the kid started using his laptop (his laptop, yeah, and he's just 11 or something)...when i asked him when he was gonna read the book, his ans was "oh i don't need to read all those pages. i just read the summary online, i know the story. that does it"...BAH...

It's a little bit scary how technology is taking over. It's already bad enough with everyone constantly updating their FB status msgs via their blackberry's (during class and everything). The FB status is pretty much equivalent to "Twitter-ing".

As for the thing with 'no textbooks', that's a stupid move. I think there's a novelty about actually picking up a book and flipping through the pages. Kinda like how no one ever really holds a printed picture anymore cause of handy digi-cams. Everything's online, on your computer, etc. Though I'm a little old-school, I like being able to hold my pictures and flip through them, I always end up printing them out. Lol.
